Pound Road West, Dandenong South

Consultation has concluded

In September and October 2018, we shared our proposed design of the Pound Road West Upgrade and wanted to hear your feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us your thoughts about our proposed design. You can find out more about what we heard below.

As part of the Pound Road West Upgrade, we’ll:

  • build a new bridge over the Cranbourne train line to connect Pound Road West and Remington Drive
  • add an extra lane each direction between Abbotts Road and South Gippsland Highway
  • install new traffic lights at Ventura Place and Hydrive Close
  • upgrade the existing intersections at Abbotts Road and South Gippsland Highway
  • build walking and cycling paths along the road
  • install safety barriers along the road.

The Pound Road West Upgrade will:

  • improve traffic flow and travel times
  • reduce growing traffic pressure on the South Gippsland Highway
  • improve access around the Dandenong South employment hub
  • lower the risk and severity of crashes with safety barriers.

    Next steps

The Pound Road West Upgrade is part of the South Eastern Roads Upgrade, which will upgrade six key roads in the south east. The South Eastern Roads Upgrade will be delivered as Public Private Partnership (PPP). This means we’ll engage a contractor through a competitive process to deliver the design and construction of the road upgrades.

We released a request for proposal (RFP) on 25 March 2019 to deliver 12 projects as part of the South Eastern and Northern Roads Upgrades. Construction will start from 2020.
