Consultation has concluded

In September and October 2018, we shared our proposed design of the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade and wanted to hear your feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us your thoughts about our proposed design. You can find out more about what we heard below.

As part of the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade, we’ll:

  • add an extra lane in each direction between Thompsons Road and the South Gippsland Highway
  • install traffic lights to replace the roundabouts at Thompsons Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road
  • install new traffic lights at the South Gippsland Highway intersection, as well as Majestic Boulevard and Lyall Street
  • install new traffic lights at the pedestrian crossing south of Hunt Club Boulevard
  • upgrade intersections at Kingdom Drive, Linsell Boulevard and Rochester Parade
  • build walking and cycling paths along the road
  • install safety barriers along the road.

The Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade will:

  • improve traffic flow and travel times
  • reduce growing traffic pressure on the South Gippsland Highway
  • improve access around Cranbourne town centre
  • make it easier and safer for you to walk or cycle around your local area
  • lower the risk and severity of crashes with safety barriers.

    In September and October 2018, we shared our proposed design of the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade and received over 150 pieces of feedback from the community in the area. We then provided this feedback to the project team who used it to refine the proposed design.

    During consultation, we heard the following themes are important to the community:

    In September and October 2018, we shared our proposed design of the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade and received over 150 pieces of feedback from the community in the area. We then provided this feedback to the project team who used it to refine the proposed design.

    During consultation, we heard the following themes are important to the community:

    • traffic congestion
    • local access
    • public transport
    • safety.

    Feedback we received during consultation has been used to update the proposed design of the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade. We’ll now:

    • add pedestrian operated signals south of Hunt Club Boulevard
    • add right turn access to the Cameron Street service lane
    • build bus priority lanes at the New Holland Drive intersection.

    Next steps

    The Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade is part of the South Eastern Roads Upgrade, which will upgrade six key roads in the south east. The South Eastern Roads Upgrade will be delivered as Public Private Partnership (PPP). This means we’ll engage a contractor through a competitive process to deliver the design and construction of the road upgrades.

    We released a request for proposal (RFP) on 25 March 2019 to deliver 12 projects as part of the South Eastern and Northern Roads Upgrades. Construction will start from 2020.
